Legal news for New York entertainment lawyers. Stephanie Meyer’s accused of ripping ideas from “The Nocturne” novel.
New York entertainment lawyer’s alert- “Twilight” series author Stephanie Meyer sued for similarities between “Breaking Dawn” and another vampire novel.

New York, NY—The highly successful author of the “Twilight” series, Stephanie Meyer, who has sold 70 million copies worldwide and have turned the novels into major motion pictures, is being accused of plagiarism. Jordan Scott, the author of “The Nocturne” is planning to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against Meyers for wordage, plot, and character similarities used in Meyer’s “Breaking Dawn” novel, as reported by Reuters.
Scott claims while she was creating “The Nocturne” when she was a teenager, she posted chapters from the novel online while still writing the book, which was published in 2006. Attorneys representing Scott sent a cease-and-desist letter to Meyer’s publishing company, Hachette Book Group, stating the similarities between the two vampire novels. The letter states both books have a wedding, a sex-on-the-beach scene, they refer to their wives as “love”, and include details describing the change a human goes through when they morph into a vampire. The copyright infringement lawsuit allegedly does not plan to ask for any monetary damages, and will be filed within the next two weeks in a U.S. federal court by Scott’s lawyers. The Hachette Book Group states the accusations are without merit, and Meyer’s was fully unaware of the book titled “The Nocturne”.
