George Walker, Head of Institutional Business Development, Standard Life Investments, said:
“”To win two awards and be short listed in another four categories is recognition of the depth and strength of talent, skills and investment performance across Standard Life Investments.
“A combination of strong performance and significant new business growth during 2006 saw Standard Life Investments being increasingly recognised as an investment manager that can compete with the very best across all the main asset classes.
“We are now in the enviable position of producing top class performance, award winning products and excellent levels of service across the board, in equities, bonds, property, private equity, cash and multi-asset funds and so to be named ‘Investment Manager of the Year’ is fitting testimony to what we have achieved thus far.
“In relation to our win of the ‘Specialist Manager of the Year’ award, 2006 was a very strong year for our UK Equity capability. In terms of performance, we have continued to build up a record of excellence in UK equity investment across the full range of performance strategies. This translated into strong growth in new mandates – winning 29 of the 38 beauty parades we were invited to in 2006. In total we won 10 segregated mandates and 19 pooled mandates, which amounted to £1.6 billion.
“Standard Life Investments’ UK Equity Unconstrained Pooled Pension Fund came first out of 118 funds for the last quarter of 2006, generating a return of 15.1.%. Launched in September 2005, it has returned 34.9% for the twelve months of 2006. The £1.3bn UK Equity Select fund has been top quartile over 12 months and top decile over three and five years***.”
