West Cheshire College’s Louise Bateman, 36, from Ellesmere Port battled it out amongst the country’s finest to take second place at the WorldSkills UK Competition in the Nail Services category.
Earlier this year, Louise also claimed a top three spot in the Professional Beauty International Nail Championships in the Nail Starters Permanent Polish category.
“I was absolutely delighted with the results. It’s been a fantastic year so far, with a couple of competition successes so I’m really proud of what I have achieved,” said Louise Bateman, West Cheshire College Level 3 Nail Student and competition runner-up.
The WorldSkills UK Competitions bring together apprentices and people from across the country to compete to be the best in their chosen skill. The competition is designed to encourage, inspire ambition, push for excellence and equip entrants with world-class skills.
WorldSkills competitions are designed by experts to be highly competitive, assessing numerous abilities, including: practical skills, knowledge and employability against a set of strict criteria.
Louise went on to say: “I’ve had great support from the College and they have really encouraged me to get involved with competitions this year. I feel this has really improved my technical skills, as well as my employability as it is a great platform to gain exposure of the industry and get your name out there.
“Taking part in competitions has definitely increased my confidence and enhanced my ability to work under pressure, as competing against other talented individuals under strict conditions does make for a pressurised environment!”
Andrea Rimmer, Tutor at West Cheshire College also commented: “We’re really proud of Louise and all that she has achieved this year. Louise is really determined and put a lot of hard work into preparing for this event.
“Her dedication has really paid off and I am confident she will benefit greatly from her experience of competing in competitions such as WorldSkills UK.”
