Summer graduations begin in spectacular style at DMU

Graduations have kicked off in spectacular style at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) as we celebrate the achievement of our fabulous Class of 2017 all this week.
There were tears, cheers and lots of selfies as students picked up their degree on stage at The Venue@DMU in a party atmosphere that ensured families and friends were clapping, cheering and joining in this milestone occasion.
On Saturday, hundreds of students from the Faculty of Technology, which includes Leicester Media School, crossed the stage to collect their hard-earned degrees from DMU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Andy Collop.
Journalism and Media graduate Jessica Delannoy has already landed a role with ICP Digital, which handles the digital marketing for huge brands such as Avon and Calvin Klein. She said: “I’ve loved the whole three years at De Montfort, I didn’t want to leave!”

Ollie McGrath graduated with a First in Media Production. Ollie, who came to DMU via Clearing and has become a stalwart of Demon Media, is now working as a producer for Capital FM in Birmingham and Heart West Midlands.

“I’ve made friends for life,” said Olivia Whaley, Journalism graduate. “The ceremony was an incredible experience, I can’t believe it’s over now and I’ve graduated!”
“The ceremony was very emotional for me and my family,” said Eugenio Lopes, who graduated in Music Technology. “It was a special occasion. I have had such a good time at DMU and now it is looking for the next step.”
David Pilsworth, Mechatronics graduate, arrived a full four hours before his ceremony with his family who were enjoying the Graduation Village set up outside offering a complimentary drink, seats and special “selfie corners” for the perfect photo opportunity!
He said: “I’ve loved my time at De Montfort, it has taught me so much. I have been on #DMUglobal trips to India which has allowed me to learn organisational skills, and given us an unforgettable experience. Now I’m going to begin a career in the Royal Air Force.”
All ceremonies take place at TheVenue@DMU and now include a special Graduation Village were friends and family can gather to soak up the atmosphere. The ceremonies are live-streamed into the Village and across the campus, including on the big screen at the Vijay Patel Building.
