Black Girls CODE and Colgate-Palmolive Push Girls to Code a Brighter Future in Hackathon
San Francisco, CA, September 22, 2017 –(PR.com)– Continuing its mission to teach one million girls to code by 2040, Black Girls CODE, in partnership with Colgate-Palmolive, will host its second Code a Brighter Future Hackathon. The event will take place on Friday, September 22 – Sunday, September 24, at Galvanize (44 Tehama Street, San Francisco, CA 94105).
The three-day girls-only hackathon welcomes students of all experience levels in sixth through twelfth grade to work collaboratively in teams to create apps and tools to address social issues in their communities. At past hackathons, teams created mobile applications to track lost pets, connect people with local mentors and improve processes such as feeding the homeless. Throughout this experience, teams will be paired with technical mentors and volunteers for assistance and direction. The teams will conclude the weekend with presentations and live demos on stage.
At the end of the hackathon, a panel of industry judges will select the teams that will win an array of prizes from Black Girls CODE partner, Colgate-Palmolive. The first place team will receive a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per team member), the second place team will receive a Tech Pack, the third place team will receive an Amazon Gift Card and the fourth place team will receive an iTunes Gift Card.
